The problem

The client you never spoke to hired the firm that answered.

People looking for a lawyer usually call more than one office, and the first real conversation tends to win the engagement. If your phone rings out while you're in court, the case often goes to whoever picked up — regardless of who would have handled it better.

Court and consultations own your day

Hearings, depositions, client meetings — your phone is on silent for hours at a stretch. By the time you return the 11 AM call at 6 PM, the caller has often already signed with another firm.

An intake call needs details, not just a message

A useful intake captures what happened, when, whether there's a deadline, and how to reach the caller. A voicemail that says "call me back about a legal matter" gives you none of that — and no way to prioritize.

The urgent calls come after hours

Arrests, accidents, and served papers don't happen between nine and five. The callers who need a lawyer tonight are exactly the ones who won't wait for your office to open.

How Speechless handles your firm's calls

1

Answers under your firm's name, 24/7

Every caller reaches a calm, professional voice that answers as your office — during hearings, after hours, and on weekends. No robotic phone tree, no "mailbox full".

2

Asks your intake questions on every call

You decide what a good intake looks like: the type of matter, what happened, timing, and the caller's contact details. The agent walks every caller through those questions and sends you the structured answers.

3

Sends urgent matters to your cell

You set the rules, like "anyone in custody" or "hearing this week." When a call matches, the agent warm-transfers the caller to your cell. If you don't pick up, it takes the details and texts you right away. Every other call ends with a written summary, sent only to the channels you choose.

Frequently asked questions

Does the agent give legal advice?
No, never. The agent answers practical questions about your practice — office hours, practice areas, consultation fees, what to bring — using the information you configure. Anything resembling a legal question is met with a polite explanation that the attorney will address it, and the caller's details are captured for your callback.
What intake questions does it ask?
The ones you set during setup. Typical starting points: for criminal defense, whether the person is in custody, the charges and the next court date. For family law, the type of matter, any existing case or hearing date, and the names of the other party for your conflict check. For personal injury, the type and date of the accident and whether an insurer has called. For landlord-tenant, which side the caller is on and the date papers were served. The agent doesn't run your conflict check or turn anyone away. It puts the names and the matter type at the top of the summary so you can check them before you call back.
What happens to an urgent call at 2 AM?
It follows your transfer rules. If the call matches one, the agent tells the caller it's connecting them and warm-transfers the call to your cell. If you don't answer, it takes the details, tells the caller when to expect a callback, and texts you the summary. Calls that aren't urgent get a summary and, if you want, a booked consultation.
Can it schedule consultations, and does it work with Clio?
Yes to booking: the agent books consultations into Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly or Cal.com during the call, so a caller who reaches you at 9 PM hangs up with a confirmed time. Clio, MyCase and other practice management software aren't direct integrations. You can send each intake to them through Zapier or a webhook.
How much does it cost compared with a live legal answering service?
Ruby, a live receptionist service, lists 100 receptionist minutes for $395 a month on ruby.com/pricing (checked October 2026). Speechless Starter is $39 a month for 250 minutes, then $0.20 a minute, and Pro is $129 for 1,000 minutes. No contract. A live receptionist can make judgment calls an AI agent can't, so if every call needs a person, a live service may suit you better.
I'm a solo attorney. Is this overkill?
Solo practices are who this is built for. Setup takes about 5 minutes: enter your firm's name in the start wizard, review the agent it builds, add your intake questions, and forward your line. It can also answer in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese or Italian.

Be the firm that answered.
